Steve Dame

Steve started playing Banjo about 25 years ago on a rented AIDA banjo.  He is proud of the fact it wasn’t stolen. He is a serious, knock ‘em down, rip it up, take no prisoners-style player and runs the length of the 5 string to create color and tension in every song.  His 3 finger roll is as interesting as it comes and he’s always experimenting with new ways and places to weave the banjo within the tune.  Just about the time you’re blown away with his banjo skills he pulls out the fiddle and “you can hear it talk, and you can hear it sing”.

He is influenced by such diverse sources as Bela Fleck, Dennis Caplinger and J.D. Crowe and one of his favorite bands right now is Punch Brothers with Chris Thile.   Steve is married and has 3 children. He owns and operates his own landscape business here in North County, Dame Landscape. Steve has played with some of the best bluegrass bands around and is an original founding member of one of San Diego’s finest bands, Gone Tomorrow. He presently owns his banjo...
